Coinbase Stock Surges as SEC Exemption Boosts Crypto Outlook
Coinbase stock has surged 5.3% in pre-open trading as Bitcoin's price jumped to its highest level in over seven months, surpassing $84,000.
This comes on the back of a landmark regulatory development - the SEC's decision to grant a temporary five-year Innovation Exemption for qualifying trading platforms to offer tokenized U.S.-listed securities on blockchain infrastructure.
Analysts at Baird and Goldman Sachs have revised their price targets for Coinbase, with Goldman raising its target to $219 with a Buy rating. Morgan Stanley, Needham, and Compass Point have also lifted their targets into the $200-$250 range.
The SEC's exemption is seen as a key catalyst, putting Coinbase's potential offerings on a more competitive footing with traditional brokerages. The move is expected to unlock new revenue streams for the exchange.
