Coinbase Unleashes Tokenized Shares on Non-US Investors
Coinbase has launched tokenized shares of major US companies for eligible non-US users. The move allows investors to buy and hold fractional shares of Apple Inc., Nvidia Corp., Meta Platforms Inc., and Alphabet Inc. on-chain through Coinbase's platform.
The tokens are backed 1:1 by underlying shares held through a regulated custodian in a bankruptcy-remote structure. This means that the tokenholders have the same rights as traditional shareholders, including receiving dividends and voting rights.
Coinbase has partnered with Chainlink to provide continuous pricing for the tokenized securities. This allows decentralized exchanges, lending markets, and structured-product platforms to evaluate the tokenized securities outside traditional market hours.
