Coinbase Global (NasdaqGS:COIN) has received approval from the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to operate its own derivatives clearinghouse, Coinbase Clearing LLC. This move allows Coinbase to clear and settle crypto futures, options on futures, and swaps for its US clients.

The CFTC registration enables Coinbase to process transactions 24/7 using stablecoins like USDC, reducing reliance on external clearing firms. This shift is in line with the company's strategy to offer derivatives alongside spot services for active digital asset users.

By having control over the entire loop of derivatives trading, from exchange to brokerage to clearing, Coinbase can maintain margin, collateral, and settlement flows within its own stack.
