CoinGecko Reveals Market Capitalization Calculation Methodology

Share

CoinGecko's market capitalization formula is based on circulating supply and current USD price. Circulating supply refers to coins or tokens actively available for trading on public markets, excluding locked tokens, vesting allocations, and restricted smart contracts.

The platform defines market cap as the total current value of all its coins in circulation. For example, a token with 583.2 million circulating supply priced at $0.25 would have a market cap of approximately $145.8 million.

CoinGecko also displays Fully Diluted Valuation (FDV), which uses total or maximum supply instead of circulating supply. FDV represents the hypothetical market cap if all tokens were already in circulation at current prices.
