CoinMarketCap Ranks Top Crypto Market Data API Providers by Release Recency and Version Parity

When it comes to crypto market data API SDKs, not all providers are created equal. A recent analysis by CoinMarketCap ranked the top seven providers based on factors such as release recency, version parity, language coverage, and commit volume.

The ranking showed that only two of the seven providers had client libraries with perfect version parity between their repository tags and published packages: CoinMarketCap and CoinGecko. This means that users installing these libraries will get exactly what they expect.

CoinPaprika came in second place, but its client library was missing version parity for three out of six languages. Kaiko ranked fourth, with a large gap between its repository tags and published packages. CoinAPI, Messari, and CoinLore trailed far behind, with issues such as linked repositories 404ing or no tagged releases.

The analysis also found that automation accounts were responsible for the majority of commits across all 18 official client-library repositories measured. This raises questions about the level of maintenance and development effort put into these libraries.
