Consensys Software Inc. is reorganizing its business by the end of 2026, separating MetaMask from its institutional Ethereum infrastructure operations. The current company will be renamed to MetaMask, with Joe Lubin as chair and CEO, while a new entity called Consensys will manage the institutional business led by Mike Kriak as CEO.

The reorganization aims to address growing differences in priorities between the consumer and institutional businesses of Consensys. The consumer-focused MetaMask is expanding into payments, savings, investing, and traditional financial products, while the institutional business at Consensys will focus on Ethereum infrastructure for tokenization, stablecoins, and other on-chain financial services.

The new Consensys will take responsibility for Linea, Besu, Teku clients, and its institutional infrastructure business. Lubin emphasized that MetaMask has emerged as a leading self-custodial wallet from the company's decade-long efforts to contribute to Ethereum through various tools and infrastructure.
