Core Scientific has disclosed a significant payment of $41.9 million to exit its Bitcoin mining operations.
The company terminated its contract with Block and Proto, which involved the supply of 3-nm chips with a total hash rate of about 15 EH/s. This move comes as major Bitcoin miners accelerate their shift to AI amid pressure on Bitcoin profitability.
Core Scientific is shifting its business focus to AI colocation, with revenue from AI system hosting rising to $136.7 million in the second quarter of 2026, accounting for 83% of total revenue.
