Core3 Portfolio Shifts towards Bitcoin Amid Market Volatility

Core3 Portfolio made significant changes to its allocation after Bitcoin outperformed both Ether and Solana in recent market conditions. According to data, Bitcoin had the least amount of a 2026 drop among the three assets, with Ether and Solana experiencing larger year-to-date losses.

The Core3 Portfolio has been under close watch due to its updated allocations showing Bitcoin gaining relative strength against both Ether and Solana. This shift in portfolio positioning is attributed to weaker market performance and easing volatility, which have influenced institutional investors' decisions to adjust their portfolios.

At present, the largest allocation in the Core3 Portfolio remains Ether at 44.1%, followed by Solana with a 36.5% weighting. Bitcoin accounts for the remaining 19.3% of the portfolio. These allocations demonstrate a continued preference for smart contract ecosystems, but recent changes indicate that institutional investors are rebalancing their portfolios to mitigate risk.

Bitcoin's increased allocation is also reflective of its relative performance during 2026, with YTD returns beating those of Ether and Solana. Bitcoin declined by 24.82% during this period, whereas Ether fell by 35.49% and Solana posted the largest decline at 40.21%. These figures highlight the ongoing pressure across leading cryptocurrencies.

As a result of these changes, the Core3 Portfolio has been subject to defensive rebalancing strategies aimed at managing risk. The portfolio declined by 57.78% during the previous year, outperforming the equal-weight benchmark's 49.84% annual decline. Heavier allocations towards Ether and Solana contributed to the relative underperformance of the Core3 Portfolio.

Bitcoin's defensive appeal has been strengthened by its relatively smaller losses throughout 2026. Additionally, Bitcoin is considered a preferred choice for volatility measures, with realized volatility figures at 29.89% over the previous 30 days and 32.50% over 60 days. In contrast, Ether and Solana continued to post higher volatility readings.

These metrics align with GSR's decision to increase Bitcoin exposure in the Core3 Portfolio, reflecting institutional risk management strategies rather than changing long-term digital asset participation.
