Corporate America Sets Sights on Bitcoin Hurdle Rate
Strive CEO Matt Cole sees Bitcoin as a benchmark for corporate capital allocation decisions, saying it's 'almost irresponsible' not to hold it. Cole argues that corporations should measure their performance against Bitcoin's returns, which he claims are volatile in the short term but can be beaten over time.
Cole cites currency debasement and AI-driven disruption as dual threats facing modern companies, and says holding Bitcoin acts as a hedge against both risks. He notes that over 50% of S&P 500 companies have fallen out over 50 years due to the internet's impact on industries, and expects AI to accelerate this turnover.
Strive has accumulated over 19,000 BTC in its treasury, according to BitcoinTreasuries.Net. Cole compares this to Strategy's buying activity, stating that an equivalently sized purchase for Strategy would amount to between 4,000 and 40,000 BTC in a week, which he finds 'jaw-dropping'. When asked what he'd do if Bitcoin reached $1 million, Cole replies, 'Probably buy more Bitcoin', adding that there is effectively no ceiling on how high its price could climb due to the dollar's potential weakening.
