Corporate Demand Boosts Bitcoin as Strive and Strategy Resume Purchases
The Bitcoin market has seen a surge in corporate demand as companies like Strive and Strategy resume their purchases of BTC. According to reports, Strive bought approximately $143 million worth of Bitcoin, while Strategy acquired around $370 million worth after a ten-week hiatus. This increased demand has led to a rise in the price of Bitcoin, which has closed August up by more than 24%.
The return of significant treasury buyers is seen as a positive development for the industry, eliminating another burden that had been weighing on it. Strategy's purchase marked its first Bitcoin acquisition in ten weeks and brought its total holdings to 845,050 BTC. The company had previously sold 6,916 BTC worth around $430 million between June 30 and August 10 to enhance its liquidity position.
Publicly-traded firms hold approximately 1.264 million Bitcoin across a total of 198 companies, but these holdings are highly concentrated. The top five listed companies have about 78.4% of the total amount of Bitcoin among public companies, with Strategy independently holding more than 66%. This concentration matters as corporate demand can return quickly, but aggregate flows still depend heavily on a relatively small group of companies with access to capital markets.
