Cosmos Links Banks to Swift Shared Ledger for Real-Time Payments
Cosmos' Tokenization Suite offers banks a way to link their existing core ledgers and bank-issued tokenized-deposit systems with Swift's blockchain-based shared ledger. This connection enables institutions to make 24/7 cross-border payments without replacing their current settlement infrastructure.
The system supports Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and Hyperledger Besu environments, including the Hyperledger Besu environment powering Swift's ledger. It can also connect with Canton, Partior, Ethereum, and Solana.
Banks can use the suite to create tokenized-deposit ledgers and synchronize them with systems from Fiserv, FIS, Jack Henry, Temenos, and Hogan. Tokenized deposits are digital representations of commercial bank money issued by banks and remain liabilities on the issuing institutions' balance sheets.
Swift's shared ledger is designed to coordinate payment movements involving tokenized deposits around the clock. Deposits remain on issuing banks' ledgers while the shared ledger coordinates payment obligations and transaction flows.
