Crypto Adviser Tyler Williams Exits Treasury Amid CLARITY Act Stalemate
Tyler Williams, the top digital-assets adviser to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, has left the Treasury Department after serving since February 2025. In his role as Counselor to the Secretary, he advised on crypto policy and was instrumental in implementing key initiatives such as the GENIUS Act stablecoin law and the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve.
Williams's departure comes at a critical time for the administration's crypto framework, particularly with the Digital Asset Market Clarity (CLARITY) Act stalled in the Senate. The bill aims to divide oversight among the SEC, CFTC, and Treasury but remains held up due to disagreements over ethics provisions.
Williams will return to the private sector after a stint at Galaxy Digital as Global Head of Policy. His résumé spans both industry and government experience, including an earlier Treasury stint as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions Policy during Trump's first term.
