Crypto AI Sector Surges 54% in September, Fuels Interest in Emerging Agent Economy
The crypto AI sector has experienced a remarkable surge, gaining 54% in September, according to Grayscale's latest sector update. This impressive outperformance far surpasses the broader crypto market's 24% return. Despite this significant growth, the sector remains relatively small, with a total value of around $15 billion.
The increased attention on crypto AI is likely due to its potential to become a key technology of the 21st century. Blockchains may provide infrastructure that centralized AI systems lack, particularly in areas such as agent payments, identity, private compute, and verifiable records.
Several tokens have led the charge in September's rally, with $NEAR jumping 183%, followed by Bittensor with a 37% gain and World climbing 47%. Venice also posted a 70% gain, focusing on consumer AI applications that prioritize privacy-preserving access to AI models.
Grayscale's sector update suggests that the crypto AI sector has the potential to produce one or more major winners over the next five years. However, the bigger question remains whether blockchains will become useful infrastructure for the emerging agent economy.
