Better Home & Finance and Coinbase announced their crypto-backed conforming mortgage solution on March 26, 2026, with the first transaction closing on June 4, 2026. The product pairs a traditional conforming first mortgage with a private loan secured by pledged cryptocurrency to help fund a down payment.
The Federal Housing Finance Agency directed Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to study whether verified cryptocurrency held on regulated U.S. exchanges could count as a reserve asset during underwriting, but no final standards have been adopted yet.
