Crypto-Backed Mortgages Now Available for Coinbase One Members
Crypto investors can now convert their on-chain wealth into home-buying power without selling their holdings, thanks to a new initiative between Coinbase and Better Mortgage. The program allows eligible Coinbase One users to pledge crypto as collateral for mortgages, HELOCs, and refinances without needing to sell their tokens.
Better Mortgage will offer up to $10,000 in closing costs credits to qualifying users, which can be applied against closing expenses. This move comes under Fannie Mae's guidelines and is geared towards providing a new path to homeownership for borrowers whose wealth increasingly lives on-chain.
Ziggy Jonsson, Chief Technology Officer at Better Mortgage, stated that the typical age of first-time homebuyers reached 40 in 2025 due to record-high mortgage rates, low inventory, and high home prices. The goal of this program is to give borrowers with mostly crypto assets another way to become homeowners.
The demand for this program has been substantial, with a queue indicating over $260 million in potential loan volume. This move may be seen as a positive step towards making homeownership more accessible to crypto investors.
