Crypto Clarity Act Delayed Amid August Recess and Lawmaker Concerns
The long-awaited Crypto Clarity Act may face further delays due to the looming August recess. Despite optimism from top crypto companies like Coinbase and backing from financial institutions, lawmakers are prioritizing other bills before their break starting Thursday or Friday.
Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren has expressed concerns about the bill's potential impact on electoral politics, stating that 'more people in the Senate are beginning to question crypto's electoral invincibility.' Pro-crypto Republicans like Senator Cynthia Lummis have criticized Democrats for holding back the bill, which they claim falls short.
The Clarity Act aims to set clear digital asset regulation in the US. A new draft addressing ethics concerns was circulated in July, banning government officials and their families from issuing or promoting crypto. However, the banking lobby has raised concerns about stablecoin yields, while some lawmakers have questioned President Trump's business interests due to his family's involvement with meme coins and decentralized finance protocols.
