Crypto Exchange-Traded Products Expand Beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum
Crypto exchange-traded products have evolved significantly since their early days focusing on Bitcoin. By 2026, investors can access products tied to multiple digital assets, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Solana, and others.
In January 2024, US spot Bitcoin ETFs were established, followed by spot Ethereum products later that year. These products allowed investors to gain crypto price exposure through conventional brokerage accounts without direct wallet management or private keys.
By 2026, the product range has broadened considerably. Franklin Templeton lists Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, and Solana ETFs alongside its Crypto Index ETF. As of September 15, its XRP ETF held approximately USD 363.11 million in net assets, while its Bitcoin ETF held about USD 421.22 million.
The evolution is not limited to adding more cryptocurrencies. Some products now incorporate crypto-native economic features, such as staking and active management. Franklin's Solana ETF seeks to track SOL while staking as much of the fund's Solana as practicable, up to 100%, with a monthly distribution frequency.
