Crypto Groups Mobilize After CLARITY Vote Failure Sparks Election Frenzy
The US Senate's failure to advance the Digital Asset Market Clarity (CLARITY) Act has sparked a new wave of political action in the crypto sector. The vote, which ended 49-50 on September 15, has been seen as a test run for the 2026 midterm elections and has already begun to shape how major crypto-aligned PACs plan to direct their resources.
One such group, Fairshake, backed by Coinbase and Ripple Labs, has announced plans to spend $30 million opposing former Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown in the state's 2026 Senate race. Brown is a long-time skeptic of digital assets and related policy proposals, and his re-election bid has been seen as a key target for crypto backers.
Industry groups argue that the roll call provides a clearer map of which lawmakers may be targeted or supported in future elections, with Steve Gannon, a partner at Davis Wright Tremaine, stating that the vote 'provided the industry with a very clear picture of who are long-term reliable supporters and who are not.'
