Crypto Home Invasions Rise Sharply in 2026
Crypto security has evolved beyond preventing hackers from accessing private keys. According to a recent report by CertiK, physical coercion incidents involving crypto have risen significantly in the first half of 2026. The report verifies 52 such incidents, including 20 home invasions, which is a striking increase from one case in the same period last year.
Home invasions now account for approximately 38.5% of CertiK's verified cases, making it one of the dominant attack types. However, experts caution that the small baseline in previous years makes direct comparisons challenging. The report also notes that a significant number of exceptionally large cases skewed the total recorded financial exposure to $124.1 million.
France has emerged as a hotspot for crypto-related violent crime, with 33 verified incidents, followed closely by Europe with 39 reported cases. However, researchers warn that France's high visibility may be due in part to its strong official tracking and disclosure of crypto connections.
