Crypto Industry Allocations Skyrocket as Senate Stalls on Clarity Act
The cryptocurrency industry has poured over $206 million into the US legislative elections of 2026 through various companies, donations, and political organizations linked to the sector. This allocation comes as the Senate stalls on the Clarity Act, a bill that aims to establish a federal framework for digital assets.
The Senate voted down the procedural motion to advance the rule by 49 votes to 50 on September 15, falling short of the required 60 votes. The Clarity Act seeks to delineate the competencies of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) over digital assets.
The cryptocurrency industry's electoral spending is not limited to the 2026 campaign, with companies allocating over $300 million to elections in 2024 and 2026. Fairshake, a political action committee backed by companies and executives from the sector, is among the main actors in this political strategy.
