Crypto Industry Braces for CLARITY Act Outcome as Adoption Continues
The CLARITY Act has become a focal point for regulatory attention in the crypto industry. However, Alex Tapscott, CEO of CMCC Global Capital Markets, believes prediction markets may be overstating its chances of passing.
Tapscott noted that the market currently assigns the bill around 47% to 50% odds of becoming law, but he thinks it may struggle to secure bipartisan support in the Senate. He also said that a failed bill would not automatically trigger a major crypto market correction.
Tapscott emphasized that the passage of the CLARITY Act has not been priced into broader financial markets. 'I would say it's not priced in at all in the markets,' he said, adding that prediction markets may view the outcome as a coin flip and social media may expect approval.
However, Tapscott pointed out that if the bill passes, there could be a bigger surprise to the upside potential. He cited the GENIUS Act, which led to crypto-related companies like Coinbase, Circle, and Robinhood gaining around 25% to 30% within seven to 14 trading days after its passage.
Tapscott also highlighted the continued growth of blockchain adoption despite regulatory uncertainty. He mentioned Solana as an example, saying it has become a technology platform for institutions, enterprises, financial firms, and startups, with a roughly $45 billion market cap that remains modest compared to many slower-growing public companies.
