Crypto Investor's $5.4M Donation Fuels Reform UK's Fundraising Efforts

Share

Reform UK, a populist party led by Nigel Farage, received £4 million ($5.4 million) from crypto investor Ben Delo in the last quarter, accounting for 75% of its donations.

The donation is significant as it comes from an individual who was convicted of a banking secrecy violation in the United States and pardoned by Donald Trump.

Delo pleaded guilty to the charge in 2022 after prosecutors accused his crypto company BitMEX of failing to maintain required safeguards against money laundering.

The party's total donations for the quarter were £5.3 million, more than its mainstream opponents but less than the previous two quarters' totals of over £9 million.

Reform UK's biggest donor, Christopher Harborne, was absent from the latest figures due to tighter donation rules announced by the British government this year.

The government plans to limit donations from British citizens living abroad to £100,000 and tighten rules on declaration of political donations.
