Crypto Kiosks Linked to $56.8M in Losses for Texans

Share

Texans have lost nearly $57 million to cryptocurrency kiosk scams in 2025, according to FBI data. This is the highest reported loss among all states.

Crypto kiosks are ATM-like devices that allow users to exchange cash for digital currency. However, they're increasingly being used in scams where victims are persuaded to withdraw money from their bank accounts and deposit it into a cryptocurrency kiosk.

The FBI received 13,460 complaints about crypto kiosks in 2025, with reported losses totaling nearly $389 million. This represents a 23% increase in complaints and a 58% increase in losses compared to the previous year.

Texas legislators are taking notice of the issue and met on Thursday to discuss financial influences from foreign countries and their effect on Texans. Lawmakers pointed to cryptocurrency-related activity as a major concern.
