Crypto Market Misjudged: Experts Identify Common Investment Mistakes
Investors often make mistakes when evaluating the cryptocurrency market, says Bitwise Investment Director Matt Hougan. He highlighted three common errors that stem from the gap between current market perception and future transformations.
Hougan noted that investors tend to view decentralized platforms like Uniswap, Hyperliquid, and Aave solely within the $2 trillion cryptocurrency market. However, he believes that with tokenization of traditional assets, the application market could grow exponentially.
The total value of equities worldwide is around $150 trillion, while bonds exceed $350 trillion. If these instruments were tokenized, decentralized applications would have the opportunity to work with traditional assets, not just cryptocurrencies.
Hougan emphasized that crypto-native companies maintain leadership over large financial corporations entering the industry. He cited the stablecoin market as an example: despite PayPal's launch of its own product in 2023, it currently holds only 1% of the market, while Tether and Circle together control over 88%.
The third mistake Hougan identified concerns the assessment of future transaction volumes in the blockchain ecosystem. He believes that with tokenization of stocks and assets, trading could become 24/7-168 hours a week, potentially leading to a significant increase in activity.
