Crypto Market Sees 20% Surge Amid Regulatory Hopes
The cryptocurrency market has seen a significant surge in recent days, with Bitcoin's price rising by over 20% in just two days. This marks its highest level since early June and is an important signal for the market, which has been under pressure due to high interest rates and regulatory uncertainty.
The Ethereum price also saw a 20% gain in a single day, while XRP rose by more than 23%. Other altcoins have also seen gains, but it's worth noting that Bitcoin is still nearly 60% below its October peak of just over $126,000.
The immediate drivers of the rally include lower U.S. Treasury yields and the liquidation of short positions, with approximately $2.7 billion in short positions being closed over several trading sessions.
However, a more significant factor is the renewed interest in establishing clearer regulatory frameworks for cryptocurrencies, led by the CLARITY Act. The bill aims to provide clearer rules for the digital asset market and has garnered attention from major cryptocurrency companies and policymakers, including a meeting at the White House with Coinbase, Kraken, Robinhood, Ripple, and Chainlink.
The adoption of such a law could be crucial for the industry, reducing regulatory risks and potentially creating conditions for an influx of new institutional capital. However, the bill's prospects are uncertain, with the Senate adjourned for recess without holding a vote.
