Crypto Market Value Crashes, But Underlying Activity Holds Steady
The crypto market's decline has erased trillions of dollars in value, but Chainalysis reports that underlying transaction activity remains relatively stable. The blockchain analytics firm found that measured crypto economic activity slipped by only 1.6% over the past 12 months, despite a $2.1 trillion drop in total market capitalization.
Chainalysis notes that stronger stablecoin and peer-to-peer usage are contributing to this resilience. Cross-border stablecoin flows surged 77.5% to $220.3 billion, while domestic P2P transfers jumped 302.9% to $228.7 billion. These figures indicate increased consumer and remittance activity.
Brazil tops the global crypto adoption index with a $252.5 billion market, followed by the United States, Nigeria, Japan, and South Korea. Venezuela's crypto economy grew significantly, rising 107.2% to $39.1 billion, while Latin America's market expanded 9.8% to $593.8 billion.
Chainalysis' findings highlight a shift in usage patterns within the crypto space, with stablecoins retaining value better than other assets during the decline.
