Crypto Markets Rally as Funding Rates Surge Ahead of U.S. Jobs Report
Crypto markets are seeing a rally, with Bitcoin, Ethereum, and XRP climbing together on Friday. Derivatives traders are piling back into bullish positions ahead of the U.S. jobs report, driving up funding rates. The perpetual funding rate has jumped from 3% to 10% in a short period, meaning traders holding long positions are paying significantly more to stay long.
The rise in open interest, which tracks the total value of outstanding futures and perpetual contracts still open, suggests fresh positions are fueling the move. This pickup starts from a relatively low base, with open interest sitting near its lowest level in 12 months at the end of September.
Crypto-linked stocks are also moving higher, with Strategy and Strive gaining around 3% in premarket trading, and Coinbase and Robinhood rising roughly 2%.
Widely-followed crypto analyst Ali Martinez has laid out potential cycle targets for each asset, contingent on confirmed breakouts. For example, a break above Bitcoin's prior high near $125,000 could open the door toward $190,000.
