Crypto 'Mom' Hester Peirce Exits SEC Amid Ongoing Rulemaking Push
SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce is leaving her post on October 2, marking the end of an era for US crypto policy. She has been a key figure in shaping digital-asset regulation and led the agency's Crypto Task Force.
Peirce joined the SEC in 2018 and quickly became known as 'Crypto Mom' for her advocacy of clearer token frameworks and safe-harbor concepts. Her departure comes at a critical time, with major crypto rulemakings on custody, token classification, and market structure still underway.
The SEC's current agenda includes proposals for dedicated crypto custody frameworks, Regulation Crypto Assets, and tokenized securities. While Peirce's exit may signal a shift in personnel, the agency has made it clear that these policies will continue through their normal rulemaking process.
