Crypto payments are becoming increasingly mainstream as more merchants start accepting digital assets. Public directories now track tens of thousands of businesses that accept cryptocurrencies globally, with Bitcoin leading the way as the dominant payment cryptocurrency.

A recent survey by PayPal and the National Crypto Association found that 39% of U.S. merchants already accept cryptocurrency at checkout, with large enterprises leading the charge at 50%. This shift towards crypto adoption is driven primarily by customer demand, with 88% of merchants receiving inquiries about paying with crypto.

The hospitality and retail industries are leading the transition, with 81% and 76% of businesses in these sectors accepting crypto payments. While regulatory uncertainty and price volatility remain operational barriers, automatic fiat conversion and merchant gateways are rapidly easing integration and expanding crypto acceptance from specialist merchants into mainstream commerce.
