Crypto Scammers Rely on Rushing and Convincing People with Fake Airdrops
A legitimate airdrop is when a company distributes free tokens to specific wallets as a way to show appreciation for early adopters or to reward loyal users or to create community.
However, scammers are also lurking nearby, and fake airdrops have become increasingly sophisticated, using replicated websites, fake messages, and even AI-created video clips to trick people into handing over their sensitive information or funds.
The scam often works by creating a convincing page that looks like a known project, asking the visitor to connect a wallet and 'claim' the tokens, which can give the scammer permission to move funds.
The most advanced scams use AI-created video clips of public figures to push a giveaway link, or hacked or lookalike accounts to promise to double any tokens sent.
