Crypto Thief Loses Big to MEV Bot

ETH USDC UNI

An attacker who stole $501,650 in USDC from a victim's wallet on Base ended up keeping only $129,000 after a MEV bot sandwich-attacked the swap transaction and pocketed approximately $370,000.

The phishing attack occurred around 02:29 UTC on August 6. The stolen funds moved to an attacker-controlled address within moments.

The attacker attempted to convert the stablecoin haul into wrapped ETH through a Uniswap V4 swap without setting proper slippage protection, allowing the MEV bot to execute a sandwich attack and capture the inflated difference.
