Crypto Voters Are Watching: Coinbase CEO Warns Lawmakers Ahead of Midterms
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong is warning lawmakers that crypto voters are watching their stance on digital assets ahead of the midterm elections. According to a survey by Stand With Crypto, 70% of crypto owners say a candidate's stance on crypto would factor into their vote, while 73% are closely watching their lawmakers' supported crypto policies.
The survey also found that about eight in ten crypto owners said they were 'almost certain' to vote in November. This has led Armstrong to predict that crypto policy will become a deciding factor at the ballot box, saying 'The midterms are coming, and the crypto voters are watching.'
Armstrong's warning comes as the CLARITY Act, which aims to provide a regulatory framework for digital assets, faces a tight deadline in the Senate. The bill needs to pass before the chamber's scheduled August 7 recess, and concerns remain about it securing the 60 votes needed to pass.
Meanwhile, pro-crypto super PAC Fairshake has built a war chest of about $193 million, the largest industry-specific war chest ahead of a midterm cycle, and is expected to play a significant role in the elections.
