Crypto Voters Poised to Make Their Presence Felt at Midterms
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong says crypto voters are paying attention ahead of the midterms, predicting that crypto policy could be a deciding issue at the polls.
Armstrong was responding to Stand With Crypto, which urged lawmakers to treat crypto voters as a serious constituency heading into November. The group highlighted the 100-day mark before Election Day and shared polling that backed up the warning: roughly seven in ten crypto owners say a candidate's stance on crypto will factor into their vote, 73% are closely tracking which crypto policies their representatives support, and about eight in ten say they are 'almost certain' to show up in November.
The survey numbers are paired with real money. Fairshake, a pro-crypto super PAC, directed about $130 million toward supporting crypto-friendly contenders during the 2024 cycle, and Coinbase ranks among its biggest corporate backers. The group says it has built a roughly $193 million war chest as it heads toward the 2026 midterms.
Washington's timeline is tight. U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Paul Atkins said on CNBC that he is 'committed to supporting Congress in advancing the CLARITY Act, including providing technical assistance.' He added that U.S. leadership in the 'digital finance revolution' depends on 'a regulatory framework worthy of' American innovators.
