Crypto whale moves $14.97 million in ETH to Kraken after staking withdrawal
A large ETH holder, often referred to as a whale, moved 5,513 ETH, worth roughly $14.97 million, to the cryptocurrency exchange Kraken on October 6, 2026. The transfer followed the withdrawal of 3,659 ETH from Ethereum staking, which had been locked in for one year. The unstaked tokens were valued at approximately $9.93 million.
The transaction marks a notable shift in ETH holdings, as staking had previously been a popular way for investors to earn rewards while supporting the Ethereum network. The decision to unstake and transfer such a large amount to an exchange could signal intentions to sell or simply reposition the assets.
Ethereum's staking mechanism allows users to lock up their ETH to help secure the blockchain in exchange for rewards. Withdrawing staked ETH typically involves a delay, making the transfer to Kraken a deliberate move by the whale.
