Dashjr Departs Ocean Mining Pool to Launch Decentralized Mining Project Convoy
Luke Dashjr, a Bitcoin Core developer, has left Ocean Mining Pool to launch Convoy, a new mining pool focused on decentralization. According to a joint statement from Ocean's parent company Mummolin Inc. and Dashjr, the separation was by mutual agreement and involved repurchasing all of Dashjr's equity in Ocean. The move comes after recent protocol developments and controversy surrounding Dashjr's involvement in Bitcoin Improvement Proposals.
Ocean will continue to operate as a transparent, non-custodial mining pool that allows miners to receive block rewards directly without a custodial intermediary. This positioning has made Ocean a small but significant player in the debate over who controls Bitcoin's hashrate.
Dashjr's new project Convoy aims to further decentralize Bitcoin mining by providing an alternative to large custodial operators. The split between Dashjr and Ocean leaves both ventures competing for miners who prioritize self-custody and transparency.
