DeepSeek Unveils Harness v0.2 Desktop App for Work and Coding Tasks
Chinese AI startup DeepSeek has made significant strides in its development of an open-source runtime called Harness. The company released Harness v0.2, a desktop app that can handle everyday work tasks and coding jobs, on September 29, 2026. This release comes just seven weeks after the developer preview.
The Harness app is designed to run locally on users' machines, targeting tasks such as organizing files, analyzing data, and writing code. The app's functionality is extended through plugins, which can be added and managed within the app itself. New features in the v0.2 update include a bundled Node runtime, in-app plugin management, automation task scheduling, improved file and code previews, and session-based web search.
DeepSeek's models, including DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash, are used by the Harness app to perform these tasks. While the core software is free and open-source under the MIT license, actual usage requires a DeepSeek account or API keys.
