DeFi Losses Surge Past $3.1 Billion in First Half of 2025

Share

Cryptocurrency losses have surpassed $3.1 billion in the first half of 2025, outpacing last year's total of $2.85 billion, according to a security report by Hacken.

The majority of these losses, 59%, were due to access-control exploits, while smart-contract vulnerabilities contributed $263 million or 8% of the stolen funds.

A significant factor in this surge was the 1.5 billion Bybit hack in February, which inflated the numbers and highlights the persistent security challenges facing DeFi platforms.
