Democrats Set Sights on Trump Family Business Deals in Midterm Elections
Democrats are gearing up to investigate lucrative business deals involving the Trump family if they win control of either the House or Senate in November's midterm elections.
The investigations could begin as early as February, with Democrats gaining subpoena power and funding to bolster their investigative staff. This would allow them to probe into various transactions, including those related to Trump-linked crypto firms and Donald Trump Jr.'s 1789 Capital venture capital firm.
Some companies are already taking steps to prepare for potential investigations, hiring lawyers and crisis communications specialists to handle internal audits and public outreach. In a statement, 1789 Capital said it 'welcomes legitimate congressional oversight' but has no intention of being held hostage by political gamesmanship.
Democrats have expressed concerns about the Trump family's business dealings, particularly those involving Jared Kushner, who has secured deals with Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates while serving as a presidential envoy. Representative Jamie Raskin (D-MD) said Kushner's actions 'are an outrageous conflict of interest.'
Some Republicans may join Democrats in their efforts to investigate Trump family business dealings. Freshman Senator John Curtis (R-UT) has called for Donald Jr. to be investigated over allowing a Russian oligarch to pay for his wedding parties in the Bahamas.
