Deribit Unveils Starbase Matching Engine Upgrade
Deribit, a leading cryptocurrency derivatives exchange, has unveiled significant upgrades to its matching engine. The company has migrated from its Classic engine to Starbase, which boasts impressive improvements in latency and order processing capabilities.
The new system has dramatically reduced median request-response latency by approximately 61 times, cutting it from 4.7 ms to just 76 µs. More impressively, tail latency, the slowest 1% of requests, has improved by roughly 531 times, a reduction of over 500 times.
The Starbase engine processes more than 100,000 orders per second with sub-millisecond matching and enforces stricter FIFO (first-in-first-out) ordering. This ensures that co-located traders at LD4 have equal access to the exchange's liquidity pool.
The launch of Starbase is part of Deribit's deeper integration with Coinbase International Exchange, which aims to improve performance and scalability. The company had tested the new engine on a testnet in April 2026 before deploying it in production in early July 2026.
