Deutsche Bank Enters Crypto Custody Market with European Launch
Deutsche Bank has announced that it will begin offering digital asset custody services to institutional clients in Europe. The bank's corporate statement said that its digital asset custody solution will launch this year, allowing European clients to access regulated custody services for 'selected digital assets'. At launch, the service will support Bitcoin, Ethereum, and several stablecoins, including USDC, EURC, and EURAU.
Gerald Podobnik, Co-Head Corporate Bank at Deutsche Bank, stated that digital assets are not a replacement for traditional financial systems but are instead complementary. The bank's aim is to provide clients with a 'secure and regulated gateway' to the evolving market, according to Podobnik.
This move is not surprising, as multiple financial institutions already offer digital asset custody services in Europe. Standard Chartered, BBVA, Société Générale, and others have already entered this space, some providing services for retail customers. In Germany, Commerzbank was the first German full-service bank to obtain a crypto custody license.
