Deutsche Bank Enters Digital Assets Market with Regulated Crypto Custody
Deutsche Bank is making a significant move into digital assets by offering custody services for institutional and corporate clients across Europe. The bank plans to hold wallets and private keys, allowing clients to securely store and transfer Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), USD Coin (USDC), EURC, and EURAU without building their own infrastructure.
This move will bring digital assets into a banking framework, providing key protections such as storage of private keys, wallet control, and transaction approval controls. The initial asset list is limited, but tokenized financial instruments are expected to follow later on.
The decision to offer regulated crypto access expands the market for institutions, which are increasingly looking for ways to invest in digital assets. According to a 2026 Coinbase-EY survey study, 73% of decision-makers plan to allocate more money to digital assets, with 81% preferring spot exposure through registered vehicles such as ETFs and ETPs.
Deutsche Bank's target market includes asset managers, hedge funds, brokers, corporations, and sovereign institutions. The bank can connect crypto custody with existing banking relationships across Europe, making it an attractive option for these clients.
