Developer Sends Bitcoin Over Apple's Find My Network with Unconventional Device
A developer has successfully sent Bitcoin over Apple's Find My network using a small device that relays Cashu ecash tokens through nearby iPhones. The sending device doesn't need an internet connection during the transfer.
The proof of concept uses the tracking system behind AirTags as an unusual payment channel, but its builder warns it should only be used to send tiny amounts. The developer shared the experiment on X, calling it possibly the most absurd way to send Bitcoin yet.
The device runs on cheap ESP32 boards and packs a token into Bluetooth signals that imitate lost-item beacons. Passing iPhones pick up those signals and relay them through Apple's Find My network, as they would for a missing AirTag. The recipient can then pull those reports with an Apple account and rebuild the token piece by piece.
