DEX Spot Volume Hits Record 24% of CEX in July
The decentralized exchange (DEX) spot volume reached a record high in July 2026, accounting for 24.14% of centralized exchange (CEX) volume. This milestone was achieved despite a slow month for DEX trading, with absolute spot volume on decentralized platforms falling by 26% to approximately $130.77 billion.
The trend of increasing DEX volume is not new, having started in 2025 and continued steadily throughout the year. The leading DEX protocols driving this volume include Uniswap, PancakeSwap, Aerodrome, and newer entrants like Hyperliquid.
The growth of DEXs can be attributed to their permissionless features, which allow for speed to market when listing new tokens. In contrast, centralized exchanges require compliance reviews and due diligence, taking weeks or even months to list a token.
