Dogecoin Price Holds Steady Amid Ecosystem Shifts
At $0.0960 on Friday morning, Dogecoin's price remains below the psychologically important ten-cent mark. The cryptocurrency has been trading around this level for a while now, but recent developments in the ecosystem could potentially shift its trajectory.
The launch of the public DeFi testnet by DogeOS is one such development that could have a significant impact on the future of Dogecoin. The testnet allows developers to build lending protocols, trading venues, and other applications using DOGE as collateral. However, it's essential to note that this is still an experimental phase, and users are not putting real money into these applications.
The hashrate, which measures the combined computing power of all miners on the network, has also fallen sharply over the past year. Currently, it stands at around 32 percent of its record high, with about two-thirds of machines that were mining in February switched off. This decline could potentially increase the risk of an attack on the chain, but the merged mining with Litecoin pushes back the attacker's bill.
The 200-day moving average is another key metric to consider. According to calculations based on Kraken data, this level stands at $0.0879, which is roughly 9.4 percent below the current price. While some market reports put this figure at around $0.0956, there is a discrepancy between different exchanges and trading pairs.
