The Dogecoin application layer, DogeOS, has launched its public testnet as part of an effort to introduce Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible smart contracts into the Dogecoin network.

This move aims to support a range of applications including trading, lending, stablecoins, prediction markets, and games, with state settlement taking place on the Dogecoin network. The project currently relies on trusted execution environments, validators, and ordered consensus to ensure network security.

DogeOS CEO Jordan Jefferson stated that Dogecoin does not currently verify Zero-Knowledge (ZK) proofs on its own, and bridging state transitions requires valid proofs along with signatures from the majority of validators and TEE signers. The team is focused on the public testnet for now, allowing developers time to build and test applications before a mainnet launch.
