DogeOS Testnet Goes Live, Brings Ethereum-Style Apps to Dogecoin
The DogeOS project has launched its public testnet for the Dogecoin application layer on September 30, 2026. This allows developers to build and test applications on top of the Dogecoin network without using real money.
The testnet is EVM-compatible, meaning that Ethereum tools and smart contracts can be used on it, making it easier for developers to transition from Ethereum to Dogecoin. Fees on the testnet are paid in Dogecoin, and a faucet provides 42.069 free test coins per day.
Several teams are already building applications on the testnet, including lending protocols, trading exchanges, stablecoins, prediction markets, and gaming apps. These applications aim to add utility to the Dogecoin ecosystem beyond just being a digital currency.
DogeOS founder Jordan Jefferson said that the testnet gives builders a place to turn their ideas into working apps, marking the beginning of Dogecoin's evolution from an asset to an ecosystem. Tim Stebbing, director of the Dogecoin Foundation, hopes that DogeOS will become 'the gateway for the next 100 startups to build on Dogecoin.'
