DogeOS Testnet Launches, Bringing New Life to Dogecoin
The Dogecoin (DOGE) community is abuzz with excitement as DogeOS, an application layer built on top of DOGE, launched its public testnet. This marks a significant milestone for the cryptocurrency, which has struggled to find new uses beyond payments and price bets.
DogeOS allows developers to build software that runs trading platforms, lending markets, stablecoins, prediction markets, and games, all using test DOGE to pay transaction fees. The system is compatible with Ethereum, making it easy for developers to use familiar tools to build on it.
The Dogecoin Foundation has publicly endorsed DogeOS, and the project has secured $6.9 million in funding led by Polychain Capital. CEO Jordan Jefferson stated that the project aims to give DOGE a reason to exist beyond its ties to Elon Musk.
