DogeOS Unleashes Public Testnet for Ethereum-Style Apps on Dogecoin
DogeOS, the application layer for Dogecoin, has launched its public testnet, allowing developers to build Ethereum-style applications on the Dogecoin network. The testnet, launched on September 30, is compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), making it easier for teams that already build for EVM blockchains to deploy on Dogecoin.
The project, founded by the team behind the MyDoge wallet, has raised $6.9 million to expand Dogecoin beyond payments and price speculation. DogeOS positions itself as a layer that sits above the Dogecoin ledger, preserving the network's simplicity while introducing utility. According to Timothy Stebbing, Dogecoin Foundation director, 'L1 ledger purity must stay intact while we introduce utility one layer above, and that is what DogeOS represents to me.'
The testnet has already attracted several teams, including Barkswap, Superposition Finance, and Derps, which are building a liquidity engine, lending protocol, and perpetual exchange, respectively. The project aims to draw experienced teams into its ecosystem and create a new wave of applications for Dogecoin holders. According to Jordan Jefferson, Founder and CEO, 'The teams joining this ecosystem are tackling the pieces DOGE has been missing: markets, financial tools, games and more ways to use Dogecoin.'
DogeOS has not set a mainnet launch date, and the availability of each application depends on its own team's schedule. For now, the public testnet gives builders a live environment to develop and test products ahead of that mainnet.
