A Bitcoin wallet that had been dormant since 2013 recently woke up and moved $31.3 million in funds, but it's not an isolated case.

The wallet labeled 18TExP transferred 500 BTC to a new address after over 12 years of inactivity, with the owner possibly moving the funds due to security concerns following the Coldcard hack.

Coldcard is a popular Bitcoin-only hardware wallet that has been hacked, resulting in thousands of BTC being drained from user wallets. The hack exploited a flaw dating back to March 2021 and has caused around $130 million in damages so far.

Data from CryptoQuant shows that old coins dormant for seven to 10 years have become active, with roughly 935 BTC moving on Aug. 3, the largest single-day total since March 20.
