ECB Calls for Tougher Crypto Rules Across the EU
The European Central Bank (ECB) has proposed stricter regulations for cryptocurrencies across the EU. The proposals, part of the next MiCA review, aim to expand the ban on stablecoin interest to indirect rewards, staking, and lending.
The ECB also wants to introduce EU-wide regulation of staking, lending, and borrowing in the crypto space. This would include new powers to restrict foreign-currency stablecoins such as USDT and USDC.
Another proposal is to move crypto supervision from national regulators to ESMAD. The exact implications of this change are not yet clear.
